R & E: Normally not encountered until the end of April, with peak in mid-May. Dramatic concentrations, like those seen in the fall, are almost never encountered in the spring.

R & E: Widmann (1907) stated that "very large flocks" were seen passing over St. Louis on May 25-27, 1882, but he gave no numbers.



R & E: Common summer resident statewide; the greatest concentrations are present in cities and towns.



R & E: Fall migration is in full swing by mid-August, and numbers peak in late August or early September. Large flocks (sometimes numbering in the hundreds/flock) continue to be seen through the third week in September, but numbers drop off drastically thereafter. It is regularly seen in much smaller numbers (usually only solitary birds are seen after the first week in Oct. through mid-Oct). but rarely into the third week of October.
